35 candidates for Kwara guber polls

By - - [ ]

Thirty five candidates will participate in Saturday’s governorship poll, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner Garba Madami has said.

He added that a total of 338 candidates spread across 19 political parties will contest for available 24 seats in the Kwara state House of Assembly.

Mallam Madami, told reporters on Thursday in Ilorin, the state capital ahead of March 9th governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The REC, who assured that the commission would give level playing ground to all political parties in the election, said that the exercise would be conducted by 12,842 personnel across 2,872 polling units in the state.

He also said that the batching of sensitive material had commenced from the local government to all the registration area centers, adding that all presiding officers had been mandated to be at the polling units at 7:30am on the election day.

Mallam Madami said that the commission had hired boats and was being assisted by naval boats to transport election materials to riverine areas of the state.

To ensure credible polls, he said that the commission would deploy DSS personnel to monitor activities of INEC ad-hoc staff to discourage election malpractices.

He said that the commission would adhere strictly to the use of card reader and all provisions of the electoral act during the elections.

He threatened that it would cancel election results at any polling unit where card reader is not used.

He said that election results in four polling units located in Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Baruten local government areas of the state were cancelled in the February 23 elections due to refusal of the electorate to use the card reader as well as over-voting.
