Elections: FCE Bichi Provost warns students against political thuggery

By - - [Politics ]

Prof. Bashir Muhammad-Fagge, the Provost, Federal College of Education, (Technical) Bichi, has warned Nigerian students against political violence.

The provost issued the warning on Friday in Kano while inaugurating the newly elected officials of the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES).

Muhammad-Fagge however advised the students to sustain their status of being leaders of tomorrow by exhibiting good conduct during the forthcoming elections.

He reminded them on the need to behave well and avoid any thuggery capable of tarnishing their image.

He enjoined the students to do everything possible to ensure free and fair elections, as some of them would be used as ad-hoc electoral staff by INEC.

“It is a honour and privilege to host the inauguration of the new executives in the College which is very important in the history of Unionism in the country,” Muhammad-Fagge said.

He also commended the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and Colleges of Education in general for their commitment to teacher education in the country.

The provost however noted that the teaching profession was not viewed as lucrative for so many years now, which needed to be changed.

“This made it necessary for Colleges of Education to do all it takes to make teaching profession occupy its appropriate position in the country and all hands must be on deck.

“The Committee of Federal Provosts which I am the Chairman is doing all it takes to make teaching as attractive to youths of this country,” he said.

He urged the new executives to use their tenure to create more peace across the Colleges of Education in the country, urging them to consider FCE Technical Bichi as their second home.

The Executive Secretary, NCCE, Prof. Baffa Aliyu, congratulated the new officials and charged them to work tirelessly towards moving all colleges of education forward.

Aliyu was represented by the NCCE Director of Personnel and Management, Hajiya Jummai Suleiman.

He assured that the commission would maintain the standard of such election and commended the FCE Bichi for hosting the inauguration of the officials.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected National President of NANCES, Mr Mahmud Abubakar, pledged to advocate for better and qualitative teacher education, and with sincerity of purpose to tackle challenges in the education system.

He acknowledged the fatherly role of the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges and that of the Provost, FCE (Technical), Bichi.
