Delta govt arrests 16 suspected exams’ fraudster

By - - [General ]

Determined to eradicate all forms of examination frauds, Delta State government on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of sixteen persons allegedly involved in” Miracle Centers” outside the state.

Disclosing that the increasing menace of examination frauds had been worrisome, the state government said that the sixteen persons suspected to be exams’ fraudsters were arrested in Asaba last Monday through the help of exams’ fraud committee under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

It was gathered that the suspects under the guise of operating lecture centres, allegedly hoodwinked unsuspecting desperate higher institutions’ seekers into enrolling for WAEC/ NECO with them after paying huge sums of money, and are thereafter taken to the miracle centres in Benin in Edo state or Onitsha, Anambra State where the examinations are written for them by mercenaries.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects to newsmen in Asaba, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Barr Chiedu Ebie said the suspects were arrested on intelligence gathering, adding that the leader of the syndicate was identified as” Arise & Shine” Others ( names withheld) as they were handed over to the police for prosecution.

Also speaking, the police commissioner in the state, Anthony Ogbizi who spoke with newsmen in Asaba, said ”the Suspects confessed to the crime and investigation is ongoing. They will be charged to court on completion of investigation,” warning that the police will bring to book perpetrators of examination malpractice in the state.

Sources said exams’ fraudsters often work with principals of various schools as they take their students after allegedly extorting unsuspecting desperate higher institutions’ admission seekers with assurances of writing and passing their examination in one sitting.
