Centre calls for redployment of Kano CP

By - - [ ]

The Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA) has appealed to the Acting Inspector General of police Abdullahi Muhammed Adamu to transfer Kano state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Rabiu Yusuf over alleged unequal treatment of political parties and their candidates preparatory to the forthcoming general elections.

Addressing newsmen in Kano on Thursday CAJA executive Director Malam Kabiru Saidu Dakata stated that, it is of interest to notice the unequal treatment the state commissioner of police is given to different political parties and candidates in the state.

“We have evidences to prove to the world that, the state commissioner of police in Kano has been rendering unequal treatment to different political parties and candidates in the state. For instance, the ruling party in the state has been enjoying the privilege of displaying weapons openly and also there were reports on killings during the ruling party’s campaign rallies at Bichi and Rano, yet nothing was done,” said Dakata.

He added that, when a 70 year old man was allegedly murdered in October 2018, the gubernatorial aspirant of that political party was invited for questioning on October 15 2018 adding that with the killings associated with the ruling party the command neither invite gubernatorial candidate of the APC.

“In view of the forgoing, we wish to appeal to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu as a matter of urgency to call the Kano state commissioner of police to order or transfer him to another state so that a neutral officer who is ready to provide a level playing ground for all the political parties and candidates to be brought to Kano,” he pleaded.
