IG tasks police on rule of law, human rights

Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has charged the new constables in the service to respect rule of law and fundamental human rights in the performance of their duty.

He gave the charge on Saturday at the passing-out parade of the constables recruited for training.

The constables were 6, 000 in number and were trained in police colleges and training schools across the country.

Idris whose speech was read at the passing out parade of the 267 of the constables trained at the Police Training School in Ilorin also charged the new policemen to be loyal to the nation and the force.


The police boss in the speech read by the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Bashir Makama, said the loyalty must be resolute and total.

He said the new policemen are expected to toe the line of honour and shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the police “as there is no place for corrupt, indolent and disgruntled officers.

Idirs who noted the training and subsequent passing out of the constables would improve the present steenght of the force of about 300, 000 said it would also helpful at this time that the nation is in election period

He said the police were equipped with sufficient knowledge and character and trained in manner they would meet demands of contemporary policing
