NDFA Cries Over Lack Of Support For The Deaf Footballers Participating In Soccer

By - - [ ]

The Nigeria Deaf Football Association (NDFA), has decried the lack of support for the deaf footballers participating in the ongoing soccer competition involving four states.

Mr Umaru Kabiru, its National Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday in Jos that the host state – Plateau – was particularly guilty of such attitude.

He said that the other participating states – Bauchi, Benue and Nasarawa – had paid the N50,000 participation fee for the ffith edition of the championship holding in Jos.

According to him, the annual championship, which is held on rotational basis, is aimed at providing a platform for deaf players to explore their potential.

He said that this year’s edition, tagged: “Lalong 2018”, which kicked off on Nov. 24, will end on Dec. 2, and described the quality of play as “encouraging”.

According to him, governments of participating states are also expected to make other logistics available to the players.

Kabiru described the attitude of the Plateau government as “disappointing”, saying that the other three states had “done their best” for the players.

“Players from other states are comfortable, but those from Plateau are not being cared for. This is not encouraging at all,” he said.

The chairman regretted that the association was being forced to cater for Plateau players, saying that the situation was “not fair”.

“I have spoken with some of the players; they appear generally demoralised and unhappy about the attitude of their state government.”

Kabiru urged the Plateau government and members of the public to support the deaf players so as to encourage them to explore their talents.

Efforts to speak with the Plateau sports commissioner, Victor Lapang, were not successful as calls to all his phones lines rang out.
