By - - [Politics ]

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers

1. World leaders and prominent Nigerians on Tuesday hailed former President Goodluck Jonathan for saving Nigeria from being plunged into war in 2015.

Eminent citizens, including President Muhammadu Buhari, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Abdusalam Abubakar (rtd), Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) and retired Justice Alfa Belgore described him as a great patriot and true democrat for conceding the 2015 presidential elections. They all spoke at the presentation of his book, “My Transition Hours” in Abuja.

2. Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) says the South West has more to gain by re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

Fashola, who was in Lagos yesterday for the inauguration of 5000 foot soldiers for the campaign of Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said the Southwest already had high stakes/appointments in the current administration.

3. Sen. Ali Ndume (APC-Borno), has insisted that plans to impeach the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, were still very much alive.

Ndume insisted that Saraki must vacate his seat following his defection from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

4. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has detected and removed the names of 1,931 dead persons from the voters’ register in Kaduna State, ahead of the 2019 elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Abdurahim Kasugama, who made this disclosure on Tuesday, said the names were uncovered during the recent display of voter register for claims and objections.

5. The Bauchi State Goverment has imposed a 12 hour curfew in some parts of Bauchi State following religious crisis that erupted Sunday night.

Speaking at a statewide broadcast, the Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubabakar, said the curfew was necessary to prevent further breakdown of law and order in areas such as Yelwa Tsakani, Ungwan Kusu, Ungwan Ngas, Lushi and Yelwa Kagadama.

6. Former Chief of Staff to Imo State Governor, Mr Uche Nwosu, has vowed that the threat by the National Working Committee (NWC) to aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to withdraw their suits or face sanctions amounts to arm-twisting.

7. The Benue State government has frowned at the allegations by the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, that the residents were responsible for the killing of two Catholic priests and 17 worshippers at Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area.

8. Suspected members of the Boko Haram have invaded farmlands in Molai General area, about 10 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital and slaughtered one Mr. Ali Inuwa Bwala, a member of Goodnews Church, Damboa road in the metropolis.
