Electrician Lands In Prison For Stealing

By - - [General ]

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Tuesday sentenced an electrician, Adeoye Babalola to six months’ imprisonment for breaking into a student’s house and stealing a laptop and other items.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi, ordered Babalola, 28, to spend six months in the Agodi Federal Prison for the offences.

Adebisi convicted and sentenced Babalola following his guilty plea and based on evidence before the court.

“You are found guilty on count two, breaking in, and you are sentenced to three months’ imprisonment; on count three, stealing, you are to serve three months’ imprisonment,’’ he held.

The chief magistrate, however, said that the sentences are to run concurrently.

Adebisi also gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine on each count.

NIGERIA NEWS reports that Babalola was charged alongside one Yusuf Ibrahim, 22, on three-count charge of receiving stolen goods, break in and stealing.

Earlier, the Police Sgt. Salewa Hammed told the court that Babalola broke into the residence of Miss Morenikeji Ademola and stole some items.

“The accused stole a brown bag valued at N5,000 containing a laptop worth N35,000, a pressing iron valued at N3,000 and a power bank worth N3,000, property of Ademola.

“Babalola was caught in the act by a community Leader, Mr Mathias Abiyosoye, who reported the case at the Apete Police Station,’’ Hammed said.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor told the court that Ibrahim who allegedly received the plasma television set, cell phones, laptop and gas cylinder from Babalola, knew that the items were stolen.

Ibrahim, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of receiving stolen goods.

He was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the like sum.

The offences contravene Section 390, 411 (1) 427 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000
