1. The death has been announced of Alhaji Abubakar Umar II, the Emir of Awe in Nasarawa State.

Mr. Yakubu Lamai, Director General, strategic communication and Press Affairs to Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa said the first-class monarch died in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 69 at a hospital in Abuja following a brief illness, having spent 33 years on the throne.


2. A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mohammed Abba Gana, has opined that a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will work for the emergence of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar instead of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Gana, a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP said Tinubu will support Abubakar’s emergence because they have “common businesses.”

3. Stakeholders of the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have sacked the immediate past Governor of the State, Ayodele Dele Fayose as its leader


During a meeting held yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, the stakeholders appointed the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, as Fayose’s replacement.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari has warned Nigerian elites to stop misleading the people through their unguarded utterances.

Buhari, who is the visitor to University of Uyo, gave this warning at the 24th convocation ceremony of the institution on Saturday. He said that development and progress could not thrive in a hate-filled and divisive society.

5. The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of 50-year-old Umar Garba, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Meru Mallen, told newsmen that the suspect was earlier arrested by the Command before his arraignment in court.

6. The Ebonyi Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of six persons in a road mishap that occurred on Friday at Ezzamgbo end of the Enugu–Abakaliki highway.

The Sector Commander, Mrs Stella Uchegbu confirmed that nine passengers who sustained injuries were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA), Abakaliki for medical treatment, while remains of the dead passengers had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

7. The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday lambasted a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu for insisting on supporting President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Abubakar, a former Vice President warned that Tinubu’s alleged “arrogance will fall off his eyes” in 2019 because Nigerians will vote against Buhari.

8. Sylvester Debe Ojukwu, the first son of the Biafra warlord, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu is dead.

He reportedly died on Friday night at the age of 62, after a spending a short time at a hospital.

9. Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Bauchi State, Engineer Mohammad Barde has confirmed that his party has so far received about 15,000 defectors from the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2019 elections.

He, however, advised the PDP to be careful while receiving APC defectors to its fold, alleging that some of the decampees were being sponsored to destroy the opposition party.

10. A woman during the weekend allegedly killed her husband, three children and also took her own life in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

A source said the ugly incident may have been as a result of a misunderstanding between the couple.
