A 30-year-old man, Ifeanyi Alele, who allegedly stole two pairs of sandals. N15, 000 cash and other valuables, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Alele, who lives at No. 3, David Kolawole St, Abule-Egba, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and unlawful display of dangerous weapon.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Donny told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 28, about 4.30a.m at Railway Line, Agege, Lagos.

Donny said that the accused stole N15, 000 cash, two pairs of brown sandals, two radio sets, one HP laptop, two pieces of flashlight, a pair of eyeglasses and one wristwatch belonging to an unidentified person.

He said the accused was also in possession of a knife with the said valuables when the police apprehended him.

“The police received information about a criminal hideout in Agege.

“The anti-robbery squad caught the accused with a knife and the valuable items, suspected to have been stolen at the said hideout,” he said.

The offences violate Sections 51, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a seven-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsemi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsemi said the sureties must be employed with evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

She also said that the sureties must be blood relations of the accused and also reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Osunsemi, however, ruled that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons pending when the bail conditions would be met.

The case was adjourned to Dec. 12, for trial.
